Graduate Students

First Day:

  • Contact your family or friends to let them know you have arrived;
  • Arrange for temporary accommodation if needed;
  • Write down the expiry date of your study permit.

First Week: 

  • Show your valid Study Permit at the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) in the International and Graduate Affairs Building, 1st Floor;
  • Visit us at the International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) in the International and Graduate Affairs Building, 2nd Floor
    • Pick up your International Student Handbook;
    • Register for Orientation Activities and upcoming programs and events;
  • Pick up your WesternONE Student Card at Student Central (Western Student Services Building, Room 1120). This is your bus pass, gym membership, library card, and more!
    • If you experience issues with your bus pass in the first 48 hours, please visit the SOGS office (Middlesex College, Room 8) to pick up a paper bus pass;
  • Activate your Western email account if you have not done so already;
  • Register for Graduate Student Orientation, Graduate T.A. Day and SOGS Orientation Activities;
  • Check in with your Academic Department
    • Speak to your Graduate Assistant about course selection, TA duties, etc.;
    • Introduce yourself to your supervisor and talk about expectations;
  • Open a bank account;
  • Pay any outstanding tuition fees;
  • Register for classes with your department, if you have not yet done so;
  • Apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) if you will be working on campus;
  • Parents: set up school or child care for your child(ren).

First Month: 

  • Print your UHIP (Health Insurance) card
    • If your family has come with you to Canada, register them with UHIP within 30 days;
  • Update your London address and phone number in your Student Center account;
  • Get to know the Western campus;
  • Off-campus students: set up your new home (utilities, buy furniture and arrange for internet, phone, and television services if needed).

Exchange Students

First Day: 

  • Contact your family or friends to let them know you have arrived;

  • Pay incoming fees through Student Central, if you have not done so already;
  • Visit us at the International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) in the International and Graduate Affairs Building, 2nd Floor
    • Pick up your International Student Handbook;
    • Register for Orientation Activities and upcoming programs and events;
  • Pick up your WesternONE Student Card. This is your bus pass, gym membership, library card, and more!
    • If you live in Residence, you will receive it upon move in;
    • If you live off campus, or did not upload a photo, visit Student Central
    • (Western Student Services Building, Room 1120);
  • Activate your Western email account if you have not done so already;
  • Register for classes if you have not yet done so.
